Most families have lots of photos stored in drawers, boxes, and albums, and you may not be at all different. You may even have a strategy or a few good ideas of how you would like to get these pictures organized someday. The tough thing is that it is quite easy to keep putting off doing this job because it is somewhat time consuming and requires effort. If getting your family pictures organized is something on your "to do" list, here are a few tips you can use to help get the task done right.

Plan for Protection

Your highest priority in storing your pictures should be to save from any damage that could occur during their time in storage. Sometimes your photos could get damaged even if they are stored in albums. For example, many older style "magnetic" picture albums can cause photos to stick, leading to damage over time. If you have your pictures stored in albums which are made from paper that is not acid-free, they could also be at risk of damage. Photos can often get bent, ripped, and hurt in other ways when they are merely stored in boxes or crates. Even though you might not worry too much if the photos are just prints of digital files you've carefully stored, damage could be a catastrophic difficulty for vintage photos. In some cases, you may not even have the negatives for a few of your photos. You are in danger of losing those photos forever if they are harmed beyond repair. Before this happens, you should make plans for safe photo storage. There are many great ways to keep your pictures safe, including scrapbook albums, boxes made expecially for holding photos, and bins that are specifically made out of acid-free materials. Naturally, you might also have a desire to display a few of your favorite photos, even if you wish to keep the originals stored with the rest of your archived pictures. You may print and show even vintage photos in picture frames if you just scan them and print a copy. You might even be able to improve the look of them on a software program if there are marks from stains, rips, or creases.

Making the Ideal Picture Album

While it would be hard to truly make the ideal photo album, you can usually still find an album that is perfectly designed for a certain need you are thinking of. You might, for example, wish to sort your photos in a certain way such as by subject, chronology, or another idea you may have. You should simply choose whatever works best for you. You may need to take a little time to go through your pictures and organize them if they're currently disorganized in their boxes. You should be able to get this job done rather quickly if you simply dedicate an entire table and a weekend of your time to completing the task. When they are sorted, count all of the photos and calculate the number of photo albums or scrapbooks you will need to store them all. If you cannot afford to buy these albums all at one time, set a goal of purchasing and completing one album every month, or whatever arrangement fits both your time schedule and your budget. As you are sorting your photos, you are likely to find some favorite pictures that you haven't seen in years. You may choose to put these in picture frames so you can enjoy them again.

So start organizing your pictures today and have fun with it!
